After all is said and done…

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

So… I’ve been doing a lot of reading on the net. All sorts of stuff. I mean, I want to make sure that if I use the other domain as a means to write fiction for things like nanowrimo, or just random ideas that come to mind, that it’s easy to use and will be effective for what I want. The problem I’m running into is kind of two-fold. I cannot for my life figure out how to get MT to play nicely. I’ve settled on the theme issue. Fine. I’ll take the pretty pink thing and be happy with it. I figured out how to fiddle with the widgets and to edit the pages so that it can look exactly the way I want it to, with what’s available. I cannot, however, figure out how to install new plugins. Or when I get them in the right folder and follow all instructions, it can’t be activated.

So, after reading some rather interesting discussion with regard to the ownership of blog comments, I think I’m going to go back to a purely WP blog for that website. Because there’s a plugin you can install that allows you to create a Comment License, which clearly explains what does and does not belong to me (the owner of the blog) and the commenter.

All of this being said, this ALSO made me think really hard with regard to publishing publically my fiction. In part or in whole. Will someone steal my idea and make money off the majority of my words? Well, that’s where Creative Commons Licenses come into play.

I’ve always had better luck finding the plugins I want through WP, and when I’ve asked a question, someone’s always kindly given me an answer (or pointed me in the right direction). MT just seems to frustrate me. Akismet is pretty good at catching almost all of the spammage that comes through (and you’d be surprised at how much actually comes through, given that I don’t really have the most popular blog around). I figure it’s mostly because I’ve owned the domain forever. Probably had it registered with some SOE crap things a long time ago. And well, I think it’s even listed on some pr0n link sites because of all the spam comments I used to get (but couldn’t deal with).

Yeah. I’ve decided. Now, do I implement this tonight, or play WoW… this is a pretty intense decision.

New camera

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

As much as I wanted a DSLR camera, the price is just so far out of my league that I know it’s going to be a very long time before I can afford one of those. So I opted for a decent point and shoot. One that has a slight optical zoom as well as a digital zoom. I chose this one over some others, because of the higher ISO rating on it. I hate blurry pictures. And I hate finding out that I took a bunch of blurry pictures AFTER I’ve paid to have them printed. The only downside to this camera?? It uses AA batteries. *sigh* Hopefully it’s not as picky as my last camera… cause if it is, it’s going back!

It should arrive on Friday, which might mean that I’ll start carrying it around with me, and snagging pictures of anything and everything I want. Mostly, there are some moments when I’m with the boy that I’d like to catch, because I have so few pictures of him… let alone him and I.
