I completely agree on the commercialization of the holiday(s), as you know. Let's not forget that the solstice was one of the original celebrations at this time of year, which among other things is about being grateful that the sun and warmth was returning to earth. It shouldn't be a stressful time where we get angry with each other over petty crap and that 100th toy that we want to give our already-spoiled child. i think that is why it annoys me as well - we do things out of obligation rather than from the heart. I'm glad that you are one person who knows how you react and behave accordingly. I try to do the same (which often also means staying in my apartment). I see what you did there.
