Testing WP 2.0 for iPhone

November 4th, 2009 | Tags: , , ,

No offense to the WordPress iPhone devs, but 1.0 was a pain in my ass to use! I’d write and entry and publish it and it would never show up. I’d have to do all sorts of finger-crossing and hoping that after 20 minutes of screwig around with it on a computer would I eventually figure it out. And while I don’t expect to be writing anything profound or fantastic on my cellphone, I still wanted it to work.

So here’s me. On iPhone app WordPress 2.0 with fingers crossed (again) that when I open a browser and go to my blog, I will see this little post.

Oh PLEASE work!!

Edit #1: Test one was a failure. The I set it to publish, and it shows status as Published. Visibility as Public. Shows the date and time of publishing, but when you visit my blog there is nothing. This edit is being done on a desktop.

Edit #2: And after adding the first edit, and updating the post, it shows up on on the site. *ponders* I don’t know if that’s quite as functional as I had hoped. Better, but still a pain. Not sure what’s going on.

Theme Update

I think I need to change my theme as well. Something less fluffy and something… better and more conducive for reading purposes (which is of course, what I want people to do!).

Thankfully, skoo is killing me!

So, basically here’s the deal. If you saw some weird page, for the two of you who come here to read, I’m sorry. When I log into the WP admin control panel thingie, I get this “UPGRADE NOW” message. I upgraded via Dreamhost, as I always do, and suddenly, everything is gone. It’s a completely new install. WTFF! (What the flying fuck, for those not in the know). I mean, here’s the automatically generated password for the first admin login, and what do you want to call the blog you’ve had for the last 7 months, but are now redoing because something got fucked up.

Yeah, I prayed and HOPED that Dreamhost could fix my epic failure attempt at upgrading.

So as I look and see this pink line across the top of my screen I want to flip it off and yell “FUCK YOU SQUIRREL!” to the Upgrade message. I’m terrified to do it again. TERRIFIED. Can I stress this a little bit more… I mean, unbelivably, unequivacably scared out of my fuckin’ mind of losing my blog… again. It’s not that I have all these great entries. Or that I have the most amazing layout known to man. But it’s mine and I want it.

So I’m SUPER happy that Dreamhost was able to fix it. And I’m super happy that I was so busy for the last couple of week that I hadn’t updated, there were no new comments or anything of the sort, because it gave that poor guy who got my email a chance to pull up a working back up and fix what the wordpress upgrade screwed up.

Wanna know what’s funny? I went to WP, to see if other people had issues. I wasn’t the only one. It may not have gone the same, but people were losing the ability to login with their admin passwords, and things just weren’t right. Fuck that stupid pink bar, I’ll leave it there until the next one comes out.

BTW, my favorite class is EDS 151 – American Sign Language 1. My least favorite class is everything else.

WP Themes

Now that the WP Themes Directory is available… I might play around with some theme design. I mean, there used to be some awesome ones out there. Maybe I’ll play with making them usable in the newest versions or something. Because there are still some older theme’s I’d love to be able to use, but alas, I cannot with it in their current state. 🙁

But I’m thinking I might play around with creating some myself. There are some decent ones there, but a lot of ones that I would never even consider using for any application… ever. Maybe some versatility will help. We’ll see how motivated I am at doing this.

As though it weren’t bad enough that I installed a TwitterFox, I also installed Plurk Firefox Sidebar… because while I don’t always update, I check often. Man, oh man. It’s all about being a geek tonight!!

Firefox 3

So I upgraded to Firefox 3, because, well, I wanted to see how it was, how it worked, all that stuff. I love my firefox and hate hate HATE when I ever have to open IE, though I keep it as the just in case browser. So far, I like, though it’s going to take some adjusting to. My only issue… some of the school sites aren’t compatible. I’m going to find this for awhile, aren’t I??

So I’m finally getting up with some of the awesome technology that’s out there! I installed the WordPress.com Stats, because while I have a stats site that keeps track of cool things for me (like incoming links, what city people who are reading are from, etc) I’d like a lot of that in the Dashboard/Admin area.

I also got the mobile interface WPhone for this site, so that I can use my phone to check cool things and write entries while not in front of a computer. The one on my phone isn’t nearly as pretty as the screenshots, but it works! And that makes me happy panda!

Days like this, when I’ve spent most of the day sitting on my ass bored out of my mind, I’m glad for small victories!

Trying something new

So much to my chagrin, I decided to install Movable Type as a test. If you’re curious about what’s going on, and the frustration that has already began, you’re welcome to visit here.

It’s pretty to look at, the dashboard and such. But I’m having issues trying to figure out how to install other themes. I mean, WordPress makes it so easy. You download a theme. You put in into the theme folder as it’s own folder. You choose it as your theme. Tada! Done.

I stayed up FAR too late last night attempting to figure it out. I don’t care so much if it’s a “standard” theme. But I want it to at least be the one of my choosing. I have yet to figure out what I’m going to actually use that domain for anyway, but maybe if I can figure out how to make MT play nicely, I’ll use it as my “writer” site. Ah ha ha ha ha!

Me. Write! Now that would be good.

Hmmm… I like!

So WordPress has finally announced the launch of the 2.5 upgrade, and while I like to stay up to date (mostly so everything works properly) I decided that even though it’s only been a matter of hours, why the hell not.

So far, I actually really like the new Dashboard. It’s going to take some adjusting to, but it doesn’t seem as though ANY of my plugins are broken. And none of my current widgets are acting up.

I do like it.

Site Updates

March 28th, 2008 | Tags: ,

Recently added a couple of plugins/widgets to the site.

The first is the Miniposts (aka, Asides) that I added to the sidebar. These are perfect for me to post about random dumb shit I find, or am interested in, or doing the “currently reading/listening” kind of crap without clogging up the main page with the “useless” posts.

And the second one is involves me going ahead and purchasing a Pro account with Flickr. Not because I wanted to waste my money on dumb things, and flush it down the toilet, but because I really am wanting to get more into photography, even just for fun and random crap.  Mostly I’m taking pictures with the cellphone, and I’m always surprised at the quality from it. I’ve honestly been considering purchasing a slightly better camera, with some sort of a zoom.

Because of this, I added the plicker v1.1 plugin as well. It should change the “random photo” every hour (though I could put second, minute, day, week, or whatever I want!)
